Luke 24:52-53 – And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God.

Reason #11: Jesus’ followers worshiped Him as God.

The first two of the Ten Commandments are that there is only one God, and that God alone is to be worshiped. For devout Jewish worshipers to begin worshiping Jesus as the One True God was a revolutionary shift in their history.

Believing in Jesus not only meant departing from thousands of years of tradition and education, but also risking rejection from family and friends, since not everyone was quick to believe. And, if you were wrong, following Jesus ultimately meant worshiping a false god and facing God’s eternal rejection.

This was not to be taken lightly. Remarkably, Jesus’ followers believed His words that He was the God of their ancestors risen from death and spoke truth when He said, “as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living” (Matthew 22:31-32).

And you know why they believed Him? Because He did what He said He would do.

Read Exodus 20:2-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21 for the 10 Commandments to read the first two, mentioned here, as well as the other eight things that God found of most importance to mention in this timeless list.
