Matthew 27:57 – When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus.
Reason #4: Jesus’ tomb was in a location that was well-known.
Jesus Himself was a poor man, but throughout His ministry, people were generous to Him, and even in His death one of His followers came forward to gift Him a tomb.
As Matthew 27:57 notes, a loyal follower of Jesus’ named Joseph of Arimathea gifted his tomb, which was private property registered by the government. This was a piece of land that would have been traceable and well-known, denoted by the fact that the women who visited Jesus the morning after the crucifixion knew exactly where to go.
Joseph was a wealthy man whose actions helped fulfill the prophecy in Isaiah that Jesus would be buried with the rich. He was well-respected in His community and used His influence to honor His Lord and Savior.
