“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”—Hebrews 12:1-2
Weariness hits hard—and if you’re breathing, you’ve felt it. But here’s the deal: we don’t out-muscle weariness; we outlast it by fixing our focus. You overcome spiritual fatigue the same way a soldier pushes through a long march—by keeping your eyes locked on the mission and walking side-by-side with others in the journey. Hebrews tells us how: look to Jesus. He’s not just the goal; He’s the fuel. Surround yourself with stories of those who endured. Stay in the Word. Lean on the Holy Spirit. And remember—you don’t need more strength; you need more Jesus. That’s how you keep walking when your legs give out.
This world is a war zone, and every day can feel like a fight—physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and relationally. Hebrews doesn’t pretend it’s easy; it pushes us to endure. Not just to survive, but to finish strong. We’re not called to tap out—we’re called to press forward to the place God is preparing for us.
One of the ways God fuels that endurance is through example. Hebrews 12:1 points us to a “great cloud of witnesses”—men and women who were worn down but weren’t wiped out. Imperfect people used perfectly by God. Their stories aren’t just in the Bible for history—they’re there for your fight today.
You’re not the first to walk through the fire—and you won’t be the last. But you don’t walk alone. God has given you a crew of battle-tested believers to cheer you on. They were flawed, tired, and beat up, too—but they didn’t quit. And neither will you. So, get back up. Shake off the lies. And run your race with eyes fixed on the finish line where Jesus stands, arms open, waiting to welcome you Home. The war’s not over, but the victory is already won.
Who in your life can you look to this week as an example of staying strong in the faith—and how can their story help fuel your own?
