“Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.” – Hebrews 13:7
If you’re a young man, here’s my encouragement for you: Have dominion over yourself and then seek to rule in the spheres of authority God would give you beyond that. If you don’t know how to do that, find an older guy at your church to mentor you and be like a spiritual father to you. Spend time in the Word of God, and learn from the countless positive and negative examples from men on every page. Put down your phone, pick up your Bible. Stop getting advice from your friends, and go find a father. You are a man; you are not a little boy. It’s your job to figure out your life, and it’s not the job of any man to come find you and hold your hand like when you were three years old. God is a Father who will honor your seeking of wise counsel from godly older men.
If God’s men don’t seek influence, leadership, and dominion, Satan’s men will. One way to view world history is as a spiritual conflict and battle between the Father and His sons and Satan, the Father of Lies, and his sons. One of the lies Satan tells in order to neutralize God’s men is, “You’re not needed. You’re not important. You’re a problem, not a solution. A true man is passive and not active.” That all comes from the Father of Lies, who is setting up the cultural and political landscape so that his sons can conquer, exercising demonic dominion.
Let’s go back to Genesis 1:26-31:
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion…So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion…’”
That’s His word to us. The language here is that we are made in the image and likeness of God. It literally means we are made to mirror Him. The sole job, goal, or objective of a mirror is to accurately reflect whoever or whatever is in front of it. If you look in a mirror, for better or for worse, you see your reflection. God made you, and He made you as His mirror. You are to reflect Him. That’s what it means to image. It means to mirror or reflect. God is our Father, and we are His sons. And what were we made to do? We reflect our Father. Like Father, like son.
This is precisely how men worship, by reflecting their Father. Why do you forgive others? Because your Father forgives. Why are you generous to others? Because your Father is generous. Why do you tell people they’re wrong and need to repent? Because that’s what you heard from your Father. Like Father, like son. We’re all made to worship someone or something. If we do not worship our Heavenly Father, we are vulnerable to the Father of Lies. Come back tomorrow for a discussion on inheriting the Kingdom of God.
