Can You Still Trust God When Life Doesn’t Feel Fair?

“No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.”Romans 4:20-21

Abram had every reason to doubt—he was old, childless, and married to a barren wife. But when God spoke, he believed. That single act of trust became the foundation of righteousness, not just for him, but for generations to come. Abram dared to cling to God’s promise when nothing made sense. That kind of faith still moves Heaven.

In Genesis 15:1, God appears to Abram in a vision and promises to be his protector and provider. Despite Abram’s childlessness and Sarai’s barrenness, God declares they will have a son—and through that son, a great nation would be born. Genesis 15:6 gives us one of the most pivotal moments in Scripture: “…he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness.” Abram’s faith in the face of impossibility is what God called righteousness—total trust in God’s Word, even when it defies logic.

That verse becomes a cornerstone of New Testament theology. Paul uses it to teach justification by faith (Romans 4:3; Galatians 3:6), and James emphasizes that true faith is proven by obedience (James 2:23–24). God then sealed His covenant with Abram through a sacrifice and the shedding of blood, foreshadowing the New Covenant, where Jesus would shed His blood for the salvation of many.

The promise given to Abram didn’t end with him. Jesus, the “seed of Abraham,” is the blessing to every nation. Revelation 7:9-10 paints the scene of ultimate fulfillment—people from every tribe, tongue, and nation worshiping the Lamb at the end of time. The story that began with one man’s faith ends in global salvation.

Hebrews 6:19-20 reminds us that our hope is anchored in Jesus, our Great High Priest, who has gone ahead of us and secured our future. Unlike Abraham, we live on this side of the cross, with proof that Jesus came, died, rose, and reigns. He still hears our prayers, strengthens our faith, and holds us steady.

From Abram’s quiet trust to Jesus’ completed work, the thread of God’s promise has never broken. And now, in your own waiting, struggle, or uncertainty, that same God invites you to trust Him.
