Do You Believe Jesus Forgives Sins?

“The goat shall bear all their iniquities on itself to a remote area, and he shall let the goat go free in the wilderness.” – Leviticus 16:22

After the first goat was slaughtered and its blood sprinkled on the mercy seat, the high priest would take the second goat and lay his hands on the animal while confessing the sins of the people.

In this way, the high priest was acting as the representative and mediator between the sinful people and their holy God.

This second goat, called the scapegoat, would then be sent away to run free into the wilderness away from the sinners, symbolically taking their sins with it.

Theologically, we call this the doctrine of expiation, whereby our sin is expiated (or taken away) so that we are made clean.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s devotional as we discuss what all this means in relation to Jesus Christ.

Do you truly believe that Jesus has made you clean from your past sins and shame? If not, take some time to pray and ask God to give you the faith to believe that He has truly washed you clean of all your unrighteousness.
