Does Serving Lead to Healing?

“Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.” – Mark 1:30-31

This healing scene takes place at Peter’s house, Jesus’ original ministry base. Our family has been to this location, which has been excavated, helping prove that the Bible is accurate when it names people and places.

In this miracle scene, it is Peter’s mother-in-law who is sick with a serious fever.

In this short and simple story, Jesus kindly took her by the hand, and she was restored immediately to full health and strength. She responds by serving them, likely preparing the Sabbath meal for them to enjoy together.

Her response is wonderful – she responds to God’s grace by humbly serving others. Curiously, this is not often the case with other healing miracles, which makes this woman’s example beautiful.

Are you currently serving in your local church or community? If not, what next step can you take to start serving those around you?
