2 Peter 1:2-4 – May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
One of the most frustrating aspects of being human is the limitation on our resources. We run out of everything from time to energy and money.
Thankfully, God never runs out of “grace” or “peace” or “knowledge”. In fact, for the Christian, since these things are made available by the “divine power” of the Holy Spirit, they can never be exhausted because God is inexhaustible.
Additionally, Peter makes the amazing claim that this power of God the Holy Spirit contains everything, yes everything, that you need to live your life in godliness. This is because, Peter teaches, the Christian has five new realities that God has done by His work in them:
- New Lord (“Jesus”)
- New Nature (“divine nature”)
- New Mind (“knowledge of God”)
- New Power (“divine power”)
- New Desire (“escaped…sinful desire”)
With Jesus as your highest priority, a new nature as a born again believer, new mind that loves to learn the Scriptures, and a new power to walk in God’s will, you can now pursue your new God-given desires for God and godliness with a passionate and free new life. This is because your new nature hates what you used to love and loves what you used to hate. Life change starts on the inside with God working in you and transforming you by the power of the Spirit to partake in a new life in the Spirit as God’s work in you starts to flow through you to transform all of your life bit by bit.
