“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land…” – Isaiah 1:19
I grew up in the negative world before the negative world permeated the entirety of America and do not understand the neutral or positive world. I grew up in a suburb of Seattle, and today, this is the least churched city in the United States of America. I got saved on a state university campus, the place where cultural decline down and to the left is always a generation ahead of mainstream culture. I spent roughly two decades preaching the gospel and teaching the Bible to people who were progressive, gay, and godless, giving a prophetic glimpse into the future day that is today.
Most Christian churches, ministries, and schools are built for peace time, and this worked until we entered the war time of the negative world. I’ve spent my entire adult life preparing for this season of the negative world.
While many Christian leaders are shocked, this apostasy, decline, perversion, and openly demonic influence on every aspect of Western culture sadly seems, to those who have been in progressive strongholds, very normal. This is all I’ve ever known. I feel like I have come from the future, and God has been preparing me my entire life to be helpful right now. Believers can start to feel like Daniel in Babylon due to lightning rod events like the death of George Floyd, the demonic landslide of support for Black Lives Matter (which is overtly anti-fathers, anti-faith, and anti-family), Pride Month, and the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) mandates driving insanity in the workforce and government colleges.
Additionally, the COVID season, where the demonic spirit of fear ruled the planet and closed churches at Easter for the first time in world history, caused many, if not most, pastors to become cowards, surrendering their flock to Fauci as the new global pope. Locking the church doors when people needed to worship most, demanding they get a vaccination, and mandating everyone wear a mask to worship felt a lot like the early Church, when the controlling, religious bureaucrats forcing masks became the new circumcision debate between the clean and unclean.
The rest of this devotional series will talk about the amazing opportunity God’s people have to live counterculturally blessed lives under the Lordship of Christ while the surrounding culture implodes. The place of the Western Church is the same as the early Church under the declining Roman Empire, which gives us great hope that the best is yet to come for God’s people regardless of what happens in the government. As people lose hope in government, they find hope in God. For this reason, the Bible tells us how God rules over government.
Come back tomorrow where we analyze the role of God and government in Romans 13.
Which cultural events of the past decade have shocked you the most?
