“For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses – as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.” – Hebrews 3:3
In verses 3-6 of Hebrews chapter 3, we learn that Jesus and Moses were faithful to the Father’s leading, but that Jesus is worthy of greater honor because He is much greater than even Moses.
While Moses was faithful to help build God’s house, Jesus is the “Son” of God who owns God’s house.
Without diminishing or denigrating Moses, this section of Scripture elevates Jesus Christ to an infinitely greater and superior position of glory and authority.
And, in one of the more mysterious verses, we find that Jesus Christ was the motive and inspiration for Moses. Hebrews 11:26 (NIV) says, “He (Moses) regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.”
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s devo where we look at the several offices that Jesus holds.
Have you ever found yourself elevating the things God provided or did over God Himself?
