John 14:5-6 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Imagine that someone was sick, their health clearly deteriorating. Now, imagine that they met with their doctor only to find that their ailment was terminal and that they would be dead soon.
What if that dying person then asked their doctor, “Is there anything I can possibly do to beat this and live?”
What do you think their response would be if their doctor said, “There is only one cure. This cure has a one hundred percent success rate. Everyone who has taken this cure has been completely healed with no reoccurrence. It’s a simple cure that a generous donor has funded and is giving away for free to anyone who wants it.”?
How ungrateful would it be for that dying person to complain that there was only one cure? How unwise would it be for that dying person to complain that they did not like the cure and demand that someone provide them other cures?
We have all sinned and are infected with a death sentence. Jesus came as the Great Physician to tell us that we could beat death and be with Him forever if we took the cure of turning from sin and trusting in Him. Furthermore, through His death on the cross, the Lord Jesus paid the price for our cure and gives it to us as a gift that the Bible calls grace.
In response, there are a lot of people who are unhappy that there is no other cure through another religion, spirituality, or ideology. Tragically, some people choose death over the cure that Jesus offers.
How about you? Have you accepted the gracious offer that Jesus gives to cure your deadly condition of sin?
