Men, Thank God for a Godly Wife

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.”—Proverbs 18:22

If you’ve got a godly wife who loves Jesus, loves you, and wants to raise your children—stop and thank God. Don’t take her for granted. Don’t nitpick. You’ve found what’s rare: a woman who’s a blessing, not a burden. She’s not perfect, but she’s present. In a world where most women reject God, masculinity, and motherhood, that makes her a miracle.

When I married Grace in 1992, we agreed on what mattered—God, marriage, then kids. She left a successful media career to raise our five children, and I worked to make that possible. I didn’t “make” her do anything—we were simply on the same page from the start. A wise man marries a woman with the same blueprint for life because the family you build together shapes generations.

Too many men ignore what Proverbs makes clear: a wise wife builds the home (14:1), honors her husband (31:26–28), and sets the tone for the kids. But a quarrelsome wife tears down everything—and if a man allows it, he’s just as guilty. Some women, fueled by unresolved pain, destroy their husbands’ credibility in front of the children, sowing rebellion and division. That’s not a strength. That’s spiritual sabotage.

Proverbs 19:13 warns that “a wife’s quarreling is a continual dripping of rain.” Combine that with a foolish son, and you’ve got generational chaos. Culture glorifies this dysfunction in sitcoms and media, but the damage is real—and it starts with a man choosing poorly or refusing to lead.

If your wife has wounds that affect her role as a wife and mother, help her heal. Don’t ignore it. Avoiding hard conversations or refusing to get her the help she needs is weak. You’re passing her pain onto your children and grandchildren. A godly man protects his legacy by loving his wife enough to lead her toward health.

Do your kids see you thank God for their mother—or are you letting bitterness, passivity, or silence set the tone for your home?
