“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”—Proverbs 22:6
If you’re a man who claims to follow God, that means you fight for life—starting in the home. Being pro-life isn’t just being against abortion; it’s about raising your kids so they stay alive, flourish, and walk with God.
Ephesians 6:1–4 echoes the 5th Commandment: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
In a dangerous world of traffickers, drugs, and false identities, dads, your presence isn’t optional. It’s life or death. Statistics prove it: fatherlessness fuels poverty, addiction, mental illness, and crime. If you’re there and leading well, it changes everything.
Paul gives us four clear targets:
- Obedience is for kids under your roof. You’re raising children, not roommates.
- The goal is obedience, not manipulation. Stop bribing or bartering with toddlers.
- Kids obey both mom and dad. Present a united front—especially in blended homes.
- Do it all in the Lord. Your parenting must be God-centered, not feelings-driven.
Our culture preaches nonsense like “ageism”—as if shaping a child is oppression. God’s Word says otherwise. Your job is to lead, love, protect, and disciple your child to walk with Jesus.
Here are 7 principles that kept me focused as a dad:
- Your child is your blessing.
- Your child is your responsibility.
- The point of parenting is godliness.
- Your child starts with a sin nature and no theology, so you have to evangelize and disciple them.
- Your child is vulnerable, so you have to protect them.
- The Holy Spirit knows your child better than you do, and He will help you raise them.
- Always love your child, and work toward enjoying one another more and more.
Which of these 7 principles do you need to apply more intentionally this week?
