Revelation 4:9-10a – And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever.
There’s a word in the New Testament, which was written in Greek, Proskuneo, and it’s the most common Greek word translated as “worship”. It means to kiss someone who is superior to you and is commonly associated with bowing, kneeling, or kissing someone’s hand or feet.
I didn’t think about it as I was preparing the sermon last week, but the Holy Spirit brought it to mind as I was preaching. Thinking of falling at Jesus’ feet to worship Him, we would see something particularly shocking.
Falling at the feet of Jesus in honor and worship, we would not just see His feet, but His nail-scarred feet. The same feet that hung on the cross to give us eternal life and save us from our sins. Thinking about that mental picture makes me emotional and gives me the realization of all God has done for us and how worthy of praise He is. I pray this would be real to you today as well and that thinking of His sacrifice for you would increase your honor and praise of Him.
Read John 19 and reflect on all Jesus did for us, while we were still His enemies, to save us from our sins and an eternity apart from Him.
