The Case for Christ is Clear

2 Peter 1:17-18 – For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.

Life has a lot of typical, normal, predictable days. We get up, brush our teeth, grind out our day, eat dinner, watch a show, and head to bed. Most days are rather mundane. Every once and while, however, God breaks through the mundane with a miracle and we have the kind of day we can never forget.

Peter had just that kind of day and, nearing his death while looking back on his life, he writes about it. It was literally the day that God showed up.

Jesus took Peter and a few other disciples up to a mountain. This event is recorded in three of the four gospels (Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9). Up until that point, Jesus’ glory on earth had been veiled or covered by his humanity and humility. At the top of that mountain, the place Christians refer to as the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus was revealed in full glory as God. Greater than the most epic sunrise or sunset, more overwhelming than standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon, is seeing Jesus Christ our Creator and God in fully glory.

In that miracle moment, Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets, came down from Heaven! Then, God the Father spoke from Heaven declaring Jesus Christ to be the Son of God! There simply is no authority higher than the Father, so when He declares Jesus’ deity, that is a forever fact.

In the days when we did not have technology to record things, eyewitness testimony was the strongest form of legal evidence. When God the Father, along with Moses and Elijah, are witnesses to Jesus’ glory, and Peter is also present to witness, the case for Christ is clear.

How have you seen God show up or speak into your life in a supernatural way?
