We All Worship

Revelation 4:8 – And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

When you hear the word “worship”, what connotation does it have for you? What do you think it would mean to the world? Most people would likely think of church, music, singing, and lifting hands. The truth is, every single person on this earth worships whether they know it or not, no matter what their relationship with Jesus looks like or their religious convictions.

If someone puts their work or their money ahead of their relationship with God, they worship their work. If they put a relationship with their spouse or anyone in a romantic setting, they worship a relationship or sex. Someone may put their entire focus into their kids to the point that it inhibits and is above their relationship with God and, if so, they worship their kids. Work, wealth, relationships, and family are not a bad thing but if you make a good thing a “god thing”, it becomes a bad thing.

God’s ultimate desire is that our worship would be towards Him, as He spoke in Exodus 20:3 as part of the 10 Commandments saying, “You shall have no other gods before me.” That’s a pretty clear imperative that the world often takes pretty lightly. The only way our relationships, job, or family will work is if God is over it all,  the most important relationship in our lives, and the object of our worship.

Is God the most important part of your life or is something else taking His place? If something else has become more important, ask God for forgiveness and work towards re-working your priorities so that He’s in His rightful place.
