What Are You Building—Faith or Rebellion?

“…Fall by the same sort of disobedience.” —Hebrews 4:11

We’re not talking about people who simply stumble in their faith—we’re talking about those who deliberately walk away. In today’s culture, “deconstruction” is often praised, but Scripture reveals the danger when it leads to willful disobedience and rejection of truth. These aren’t passive wanderers—they’re active opponents of God’s Word, exchanging repentance for self-made religion and discipleship for defiance. This warning isn’t just for them—it’s for anyone drifting toward compromise, thinking it doesn’t matter.

The imagery in this passage is clear: it doesn’t describe someone tripping by accident but someone choosing to fall. These are individuals who intentionally tear down their faith through repeated rebellion. Today, we see this in a growing group known as “deconstructionists”—former churchgoers who spend their time criticizing the church, mocking God, and dismantling their beliefs.

They often reject foundational truths of Scripture—like the reality of sin, God’s design for gender and sexuality, and the necessity of repentance—and instead promote a version of Christianity that tolerates sin and dismisses holiness. What’s confusing is that many still claim to follow Christ, offering a counterfeit gospel where disobedience replaces discipleship.

A Bible commentator says of this verse,

“It is God’s work to make us holy. But neither can any Christian hope to be conformed to the likeness of Christ in his everyday life simply by making sure that he does nothing about it. It is a strenuous, costly business to be a Christian. Believers must strive to enter the rest of the people of God (4:11). The word that is used describes the intense concentration of energy necessary to reach a desired goal. It demands everything we have got…” (1)

Are you beginning to fall into disobedience in any area of your Christian walk? If so, this is not a word of condemnation, but a loving warning. God is calling you to repent and realign your heart, mind, and lifestyle with Him while there is still time.

Following Jesus has never been easy, but it has always been worth it. Holiness doesn’t happen by accident, and drifting into compromise is more subtle than we realize. Yet in every warning, God extends mercy. If you’ve been ignoring His voice or justifying sin, today is the moment to turn back. He’s not shouting to shame you—He’s calling you to rescue you.

Is your faith shaping your choices, or are your choices reshaping your faith?
