“He [Jesus] is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.” – Hebrews 1:3a
In the opening chapter of Hebrews, the spotlight is immediately turned on to Jesus Christ as the very Son of God.
We are told that He shares all the same divine attributes as God the Father, is the Creator of all things, and is also the Sustainer, holding Creation together by His power.
We are reminded that Jesus left His throne of glory to come into human history humbly and to live and die for us sinners as our Savior.
Let’s summarize this staggering introductory portrait of Jesus Christ:
- Jesus Christ is heir of all things
- Jesus Christ is the Creator of all things
- Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the perfect radiance of the glory of God the Father
- Jesus Christ, the Son of God, shares all the divine attributes with God the Father
- Jesus Christ sustains all creation
- Jesus Christ is the only Savior for mankind
- Jesus Christ is the intercessor between us and the Father
This is quite the resume and one that should leave us in awe and humility. This God man, who is all these things, chose to live among us and bring us back into a right relationship with God the Father. What an incredible truth this is!
Have you ever heard someone reference Jesus as an angel? This is what we will discuss in tomorrow’s devo.
