“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”—Romans 8:1
A lot of people live like God’s love has to be earned—more effort, more guilt, more trying to be “good enough.” But that’s not what the gospel teaches. Jesus didn’t come to load you up with religious pressure—He came to lift it off. Hebrews 10:11-18 makes it crystal clear: the work is done, the sacrifice is complete, and the pressure’s off. If you’re in Christ, you’re not working for forgiveness—you’re living from it.
Hebrews 10:11-18 is a rich and powerful summary of Jesus’ finished work under the far better New Covenant. It lays out five truths that show just how complete and freeing His work really is.
- Jesus Christ offered Himself as the one sacrifice for all sins for all time. There is nothing left that could possibly be added to or improved upon His death for our sins. Jesus Himself said from the cross, “It is finished,” then died.
- After His resurrection and ascension, Jesus now sits enthroned at the Father’s right hand, with His enemies as His coffee table that He puts His feet upon to rest.
- By faith in and grace from Jesus Christ, not only are we forgiven for all our sins (past, present, and future), but we are also being sanctified to become increasingly holy and like Him, until one day we are made perfect upon our resurrection from the dead to be with Him and like Him forever!
- Believers today experience the fulfillment of the New Covenant promise in Jeremiah 31:33 as the Holy Spirit gives us a new heart and mind that loves and agrees with God, resulting in obedience.
- God now chooses not to dwell upon our sins or bring them up again to condemn or shame us. Instead, we are free to live our new life as new creations with a new nature, new heart, and new mind with new desires to honor God, thanks to the New Covenant!
You don’t have to beg for God’s forgiveness, work to earn His love, or live in fear of judgment. If you’re in Christ, your record is clean, your heart is new, and your future is secure. So, stop striving and start walking in the freedom of the New Covenant. The cross settled your past, Jesus rules your present, and your resurrection is your future. Now live like it.
What’s one burden you’re carrying today that Jesus already took to the cross?
