Will You Make It to Heaven?

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.” – Hebrews 4:9-10

Everyone wants to believe in Heaven, but not everyone wants Jesus. Many picture it as paradise, but the Bible makes it clear—Heaven isn’t just a place; it’s the presence of a Person.

Hebrews 4 describes eternity as a forever Sabbath, a time of true rest in God’s presence. But just as in the days of the Exodus, some will enter that rest, while others will miss it—not because Heaven isn’t real, but because they didn’t want God to be part of it.

To help us understand eternity, the Bible gives us images of Heaven—a party, a garden, a home, a city, a Kingdom, and a Sabbath. Hebrews 4 presents it as a forever Sabbath, a rest from labor, just as God rested. (Genesis 2:2) The first command for humans to sabbath appears in Exodus 16:23 and is listed as the Fourth Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11). The Sabbath is a glimpse of Heaven—where the curse will be lifted, and everything will be restored to perfection.

Hebrews 4 reflects on the Exodus, where Joshua and Caleb led the people from Egypt to the Promised Land (Numbers 14:24, 30). After 400 years of slavery, the Israelites had never known rest. Despite witnessing miracles, they spent 40 years wandering, grumbling, and longing for home.

Heaven isn’t just about escaping hardship—it’s about being with Jesus. The Sabbath is practiced for eternity, and we rest in Him completely.

Do you long for Heaven because of Jesus, or just because it sounds like a better version of earth?
