“You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.” – Psalm 32:7
Daniel’s life is sustained by prayer. Your car needs gas, your lungs need air, and your soul needs prayer. Your faith must be public and not just private. Daniel would’ve had no problems with the government, or his workplace, if he’d silently and privately prayed, if Jesus lived in his heart but not his life. In our world, we have pressure to keep our faith private rather than living it publicly. Daniel knows that these men don’t know God, but they need to, so if they’re going to find out about God, it’s going to have to be through him.
Would your current prayer life get you in trouble if you were Daniel? If not, you need to work on your prayer life.
From Daniel’s example, we learn seven prayer principles:
- Your faith should be public, not just private.
- When others look down on you, you should look up to God.
- Your character is only as strong as your prayer life.
- Prayer is how you march into battle and through a battle.
- The only remedy for panic is prayer.
- When there’s nothing you can do, there’s always one thing you can do: pray.
- Prayer’s less about changing your future and more about preparing you for your future.
So, what’s going to happen to Daniel? The king gets up early the next day; he’s worried because he loves Daniel, and he runs to the lion’s den to see the most incredible thing. Daniel was taken out of the lion’s den completely unharmed. Faith, not fear, leads to deliverance, not destruction. In a twist of events, the king calls for the men who had conspired to get Daniel thrown in the lion’s den to be thrown in themselves. Not only the men but their wives and children were all thrown in the den and immediately devoured. These were some hungry lions.
Daniel got thrown in and delivered. The guys who don’t know God get destroyed. The moral of the story is that you only get delivered if you know God; if you don’t know God, you get destroyed.
Here’s the best news: Jesus Christ saves. Jesus Christ stops the mouths of lions. Jesus Christ is bigger than political parties. Jesus Christ is bigger than erroneous laws. Jesus Christ can conquer death. Jesus Christ is a King with a Kingdom. Jesus Christ is coming again to establish His Kingdom and will call all of His children from their pit and place them in His palace.
If you don’t know Daniel’s God, I want you to make the decision to have a relationship with Him; it’s the most important decision you’ll ever make.
If you haven’t made the decision to follow Jesus, take some time to pray about that decision. If you already have a saving relationship with Jesus, pray for strength and courage when you face hard trials like Daniel.
