Jesus Heals a Withered Hand (Matthew 12:9–14; Mark 3:1–6; Luke 6:6–11) [1 slide]

Luke 6:6–11 – On another Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him. But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there. And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?” And after looking around at them all he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Unnamed man

  • In church, crippled = overcame Fear man (Pr. 29:25) w/Fear God (Pr. 1:7)

Jesus

  1. Jesus knows our thoughts
  2. Jesus obeys God’s laws, not religious rules (7x heals on Sabbath)
  3. Everyone who disagrees w/Jesus Chris is wrong
  4. Jesus is controversial NOT scandalous

Pharisees (hard religious conservatives) & Sadducees (hard religious liberals)

  • Religious spirit – 1). Proud NOT humble 2). Critical not teachable = CONTROL
  • “fury” – plot to destroy Jesus (same thing would happen today)

=Lots of pious religious leaders, including many pastors, will be in hell

Jesus Heals a Bleeding Woman (Matthew 9:20–22; Mark 5:25–34; Luke 8:43–48) [1 slide]

Luke 8:43–48 – And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”

Jesus Heals a Stooped Woman [1 slide]

Luke 13:10–17 – Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.” And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.” Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.

  • 18 yrs pain & demonic torment, bent over, in constant pain
  • There is no medical treatment for demonic torment
  • In church (7x Jesus healed on Sabbath), DID NOT ASK JESUS TO HEAL HER
  • Jesus laid hands on her = healed!
  • #1. FOR: “she glorified God”; “all the people rejoiced”
  • #2. AGAINST: – religious leaders – “indignant”

Jesus Heals Malchus’ Ear

Luke 22:49–51 – And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.

  • Jesus heals enemy who does not deserve or ask for it
  • Healed man responds by crucifying Jesus

God’s Perspective

  • Made everyone & everything. Blessed us. 1 forbidden (tree knowledge good/evil)
  • We sinned like Satan & demons, God promises Jesus coming to 1. Suffer 2. Save
  • God sends prophets & miracles to convince us, we ignore both
  • God comes as Jesus Christ to preach & do miracles & we hate & kill him
  • Jesus forgives us, rises from death, 40 days proving THE MIRACLE, ascends
  • God keeps doing miracles, & no one seems to care very much
  • When we don’t get a miracle, we deconstruct our faith & get angry w/God

Imagine all the prayers, needs, demons, sins & variables God is working with right now!

SUFFERING PEOPLE ARE A BLESSING

  1. What has God taught you through your physical struggles?

God has taught me a unique sense of how close His presence is, and He has taught me that He has a purpose for my suffering. He has taught me that it’s ok to have bad days, but not wallow in them, and given me a unique perspective on my situation. I am blessed to be able to not take myself to seriously, and to laugh often. And He has shown me that He has given me amazing gifts through the people around me.

2. In the kingdom when ur fully healed what are you most looking forward to? FYI I think you will outrun Levi and I can’t wait to see it

I am looking forward to dancing with my dad before king Jesus, and outrunning Levi.

Praying for you tonight!
