What Does the Bible Say About government (Romans 13:1-7)?
Romans 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
- We are citizens of God’s Kingdom 1st, residents of our nation 2nd.
- God has and is ultimately the source of all authority; all other authority is derivative.
- God’s authority is both external (parent, cop, pastor, boss, politician) & internal (HS).
- God’s authority is on a continuum from parental to civil (govt starts @ home)
- Sin is rebellion against authority, and it is the default of the flesh.
- Sinners cannot & will not make a perfect system, if one existed, sinners would ruin it.
- The state is God’s servant (evil won’t stop itself)
- Change is not always good. Removing authority (Matt 12 principle 7 demons).

- The church job is to promote virtue via repentance

What is Civil Disobedience?
[Peter] 1 Peter 2:13-17: Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good…Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
