1 Kings 16:30 – And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him.
The Ahab spirit can be working on, in, or through a man or a woman, but in my experience, most of the time it affects men. It causes those men to be passive, cowardly, weak, fearful. I choose my words carefully. These men cause me much anger, because they don’t do anything, and that’s the problem. Evil doesn’t stop itself, and passive men who allow it are complicit.
Some years ago, I was in a counseling session with a young woman who had been repeatedly sexually assaulted by a really awful boyfriend.
Her father said nothing. Her father did nothing.
With tears in her eyes, she told her father what happened, and she was very angry, and her father looked at me for sympathy. Wrong place to look.
He said, “I don’t know why she’s so upset. I didn’t do anything.”
I know, Ahab. That’s the problem.
Men who say nothing are a problem. Men who do nothing are a problem. Men who stand up for nothing are a problem. The Ahab spirit causes men to be passive, effeminate, castrated, neutered, weak, fearful, avoiding confrontation or responsibility. It’s gripped an entire generation of young men. That’s the day we live in.
The only hope we have for evil to be stopped is for Holy Spirit-empowered men with the spirit of Elijah to speak up, stand in, and do something to stop evil from taking place.
If you’re a father or want to be, what can you do to protect your family and children (or future family)? If you’re not yet a father, how can you protect others from evil in your own life rather than wasting away watching TV and playing video games?
