Because of Abraham’s sin, we have a constant war between the descendants of Ishmael and the descendants of Isaac. We saw that with the recent invasion and terrorist attack by Hamas in Israel. The corresponding global rise in antisemitism is demonic.
The terrorist attack took place on a Saturday morning, which is the Jewish Sabbath. The reason they attacked on a Saturday morning was because they knew the Jewish people would probably be asleep or resting, their technology would be off, and they would be more vulnerable. The attack also came at the end of a week-long Jewish holiday of celebration and joy. It would be like if terrorists invaded the United States on Thanksgiving or Christmas early in the morning when civilians are most vulnerable.
The Hamas terrorists can be heard shouting “Allah Akbar,” which some translate as “Our god is great,” but likely means “Our god is greater.” This is a declaration of spiritual war. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” What this means is, when there’s a physical attack, there’s also an attack in the spiritual realm. The seen and unseen are both being violated simultaneously, and you see people being empowered by evil crying out that their god is greater. That is a declaration by a demon against Jesus Christ, the God of Abraham.
This Palestinian group attacking Israel, the Jewish people, is called Hamas. Hamas is an acronym for the Islamic resistance movement. In Arabic, the word Hamas means “zeal.” It’s also a Hebrew word that appears in the Bible. This is deeply prophetic.
In Genesis 6:11, it says “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence.” The Hebrew word for violence in this context is hamas. The whole world was filled by the spirit of hamas. Hamas is not just a group; it’s a demonic spirit that works through various groups throughout Scripture and history. The filling of the world with hamas is the demonic counterfeit to being filled with the Holy Spirit. What God creates, Satan counterfeits and the reason God was so brokenhearted was because nearly everyone in the world was possessed, or filled, by the Hamas spirit instead of the Holy Spirit.
What did God do in response to a world filled and possessed by the spirit of Hamas? He sent a flood and killed everyone. The only people saved were Noah and his family because they had the Holy Spirit, which is the opposite of the Hamas spirit.
The counterfeit of the Holy Spirit is the Hamas spirit. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of life. The Hamas spirit is the spirit of death. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of Christ. The Hamas spirit is the spirit of antichrist.
Where have you seen the hamas spirit at work in your own life or in the life of those around you? Spend some time praying and asking the Holy Spirit to replace that counterfeit spirit with His Spirit.
