2 Thessalonians 3:10–11 – If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.
Paul is pretty clear in this passage – there’s a difference between being busy and a busybody. Being a busybody is what drives social media, YouTube, and the blogosphere. People ask me if I saw a particular post or video. I’m not against technology but if I have the choice between fighting with people on the Internet or snuggling with Grace, there’s really no contest.
This verse is about the opposite of entitlement…and this was even before the age of the Internet and possibly the most entitled generations we’ve ever seen in this country. We live in a culture that doesn’t make plans; we make excuses.
People have worked for almost two years, and we don’t know when we’ll get to go back to work and get back to “normal”. There’s a deficit of leadership and willingness to work and our world has incentivized staying home on your couch.
People make a lot of excuses but rather than listening to government officials who don’t know Jesus, I think it’s better to ask Jesus what we should do instead. As a society, we’re not following the Biblical principles of work as worship; we’ve been brainwashed into entitlement.
If we would follow this verse rather than the mandates of the world, I think things would get a lot better for our nation and world. Work in this world will always be cursed because of Genesis 3 until Jesus comes back but if we work as our worship, it’s the best we can do until Jesus’ final return.
