No Favorites in the Father’s Family

2 Peter 1:1 – Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

One of the worst things any parent can do, especially a father, is to play favorites with their kids. When this happens, the family is divided, and relationships are wrecked. In the pages of Genesis, this problem creates a crisis in most every generation of one dysfunctional family of faith.

Thankfully, there are no favorites in God the Father’s family. Because each Christian is given the righteousness of Jesus Christ, there is no second class, junior varsity, or coach seats for God’s children. This is what Peter means saying that all Christians have “obtained a faith of equal standing with ours”. The Apostles are the superstars of Christianity. They were hand-selected by Jesus. Peter was also among the inner three circle of senior leaders, is always named first among the apostles as he is the human leader, spent three years being personally trained by Jesus Christ, preached the sermon at Pentecost during which the Spirit fell and Church was birthed, and was now writing his second book of the Bible as the most authoritative Christian leader alive on the planet at that time. Yet, he says that you have just as much of Jesus and His gift righteousness as he does!

Do you honestly struggle to fully embrace the full adoption by the Father into His family as a beloved child in every way? Why?
