Fighting for the Faith
Jude 3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
THEME: Bible commentary, “In the Greek language, this word was used to describe a general giving orders to the army; hence the atmosphere of this letter is “military.”
- People don’t change the gospel. The gospel changes people.
- Come into church = worship Go out of church = war
- You fight not because you hate the people, but you hate their Captor & love Lord.
?????Where is your war????? -Home? -School? -Work? -Church?
Jude and Jesus
Jude 1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James,
- Does not take a formal title, “servant”.
- Calls brother Jesus “Christ” – God’s HS anointed Savior
- Mentions James, not Jesus as brother
- Humbly accepts role as #3 son (Jesus, James, Jude)
Matthew 13:55–56 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us?
- Jesus large family. Pre-resurrection family did not believe Jesus
Acts 1:14 devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
- Post resurrection family believed in Jesus as the Christ
= STRONG argument deity of Christ

SUMMARY OF APOSTATES JUDE (3rd shortest NT 2-3 John; Read 5-10 minutes)
1. Senior Leader is speaking about a local church they have authority over
2. Ideas are named & not individuals
3. 11 Warnings study guide
“certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” They will be “destroyed” because “they “did not believe”. Their hellish fate is, “eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day – just as Sodom and Gomorrah.” Because of their “sexual immorality”, having “pursued unnatural desire”, their fate is “a punishment of eternal fire.” In demonic delusion, “these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones.” Because, “these people blaspheme”, they will be “destroyed” for acting like, “unreasoning animals.” With a curse, Jude says, “Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain…These are blemishes…as they feast with you without fear, looking after themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.” Facing “judgment”, these “ungodly” people have “deeds of ungodliness” acting in an “ungodly way” as “ungodly sinners” having said and done “harsh things.” Pulling no punches Jude adds, “These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters showing favoritism to gain advantage.” These “scoffers, following their ungodly passions….cause divisions, worldly people devoid of the Spirit.”
-Apostate? -Church hurt? -Deconstructionist? -Progressive XN?
Gospel Offensive: “fight the good fight”; “destroy arguments &…take every thought captive to obey Christ; “I have not come to bring peace, but a sword”; “we do not wrestle against flesh & blood, but against…the spiritual forces of evil”; “He…sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives”
-Non-XN – don’t listen to the apostates.
