Why is the World so Broken? Genesis 3:1-24
-We now know the world is Small & Broken – something has gone wrong & responds differently
1. Naïve optimist – just wait, it’s going to turn around & be great
2. Hopeless pessimist – angry, jaded, fearful, anxious, unwell
3. XN – things worse than pessimists fear, but more hopeful than optimists can imagine
- 2 trees = 1. Life 2. Death
= We are the problem. God is the solution. (2 pages in to history)

Hell on Earth
Genesis 3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Serpent = Satan (Rom 16:20; 2 Cor 11:1-4, 14; Rev 12:9, 20:2)
- Satan – Divine Being (includes angels) fallen, rebelled cast down (Rev. 12:7-9)
Satan -dangerous beasts, serpent/dragon, lion. Demons -python, goat, ostriches, bulls, hyenas, birds, scorpions. Evil people – vipers, serpents, goats, cows, dogs, wolves, leeches, donkeys, evil beasts
Identity (between God/animals)– attack 1. Who God is 2. Who we are (identity politics today)
= Eyes open – woke – see that God has built an unjust world & you are a victim
3 Ways to dull the Sword of the Word
1. Remove – Satan twisted – God said they could eat any with 1 exception
2. Add – Eve adds that they cannot touch it
3. Reject – Satan says God is lying
=TIMING: Wedding – War (Satan hates love, relationship, unity, peace, authority)
The Fall of it All
Genesis 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. 8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
TEMPTATION
-I Jn 2:16 (NIV) pattern “…the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, & the pride of life…”
EVE = 1 Tim. 2:13–14 Adam was formed first, then Eve… Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived
- Satan – lying native language (John 8:44)
SIN 1. Omission (Adam) 2. Commission (Eve)
=Adam Leader: 1. Walk away w/Eve 2. Sent Eve away & get middle 3. Call for God
SHAME – Intimacy to fig leaves (social media)
= Sin/Shame – forget who God is vs Prodigal Son story
ADAM
1. Eve – responsible self 2. Adam – COVENANT HEAD – responsible for self & Eve
-Rom 5:12 sin came into the world thru one man, & death through sin…so death spread to all men
3 Kinds of Men
1. Lion – use your strength to hurt women/children (toxic masculinity) SATAN
2. Lamb – your weakness allows others to hurt women/children (woke beta males) ADAM
3. Lion & Lamb – tough for/tender w/women & children JESUS (Rev. 5:5-6)
GOD
= Jesus Last Adam 1 Cor. 15:45 (2 perfect men)
- Adam turned from the Father in a garden; Jesus turned to the Father in a garden.
- Adam was naked and unashamed; Jesus was nearly naked and bore our shame.
- Adam’s sin brought us thorns; Jesus wore a crown of thorns.
- Adam substituted himself for God; Jesus was God substituting himself for us.
- Adam sinned at a tree; Jesus bore our sin on a tree.
- Adam died as a sinner; Jesus died for sinners.
Pursed & Called them, sent Jesus to Pursue & Call us (God seeks us, we don’t seek God)
Creation is Cursed
Genesis 3:10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14 The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” 16 To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.” 17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
DOMINION – Leader affects all
ISOLATION VS SOLITUDE – (running from God’s presence vs running to God’s presence)
GROUP GUILT– everyone responsible is held accountable by God (vs social justice & blame-shifting)
SATAN/DEMONS – no possibility of salvation
- Satan’s seed = evil people demonically empowered to run the world at war against
- Cursed vs Adam/Eve Consequences & in a cursed world
MARRIAGE – “one” now divided as 2 not saying “we” but “I”
ADAM – 1. work & 2. wife = biggest challenges
· World cursed (not people) – dirt treats him how He treats God
· Death process begins. Prophecy from God (5:5 = 930 years) “bites dust”. Pain now & later
EVE– wife & motherhood = biggest challenges
JESUS- 3:15 “protoevangelion” God preaches Gospel 1st, angel last Rev. 14:6
- Jesus’ seed/offspring 1. no father 2. singular not plural = DRAGON SLAYER
Jesus the Dragon Slayer
Genesis 3:20 The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them. 22 Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—” 23 therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

1-st Coming – Jesus new Adam we new creations -2nd coming – New Heaven New earth
Bible = Beginning – Middle – heaven/earth; people/angels/; garden/tree = run to presence
