Leadership

Galatians #8 – Law-Based vs. Grace-Based Relationships

There are basically two kinds of relationships Christians have. One is law-based. Someone has fears that compel them to control other people and circumstances through making demands. The other is grace-based. The two people trust the Holy Spirit to work in and through each of them, focus on their unity around Jesus Christ, and give grace in secondary matters where they disagree.

Galatians #4 – There’s Righteousness for YOU!

Do you ever feel like your spiritual life is a constantly discouraging reminder of all your faults, flaws, and failures? Are you sick of living for God? You should be. That’s not the Christian life. The Christian life is about Christ for you, in you, and through you! Learn to live from Jesus’ righteousness and learn to stop living for your righteousness.

Spirit Filled Jesus: Week 5

Why are some of your relationships so life-giving and others so life-taking? In this Sunday’s sermon, “Facing Foolish and Evil People with the Spirit’s Wisdom”, you will learn how to have a healthy relationship with Jesus and other people.

Should we start a Mens Group?

If your church does not have a strong men’s ministry, what should you do? The majority of people who listen to my sermons are young men and they are also the least likely to attend church.

Watch as I share how the church should be the answer to this cultural crisis and about the importance of spiritual fathers and brothers.

John #7 – Successful People Need Jesus: John 3:22-36

This is a face-melting sermon about the repentance of sin, humility in ministry, Kingdom of God as the only alternative to the dumpster fire that is culture, and the wrath of God which is meted out by Jesus Christ as the King of both Heaven and Hell!

John #3 – Start with Jesus to Understand God’s Will for Your Life: John 1:35-51

How do you discover God’s will for your life? Jesus first disciples had jobs they worked and a life course they had plotted. All of that changed, however, when Jesus came along and asked them to follow Him. The same is true for Jesus’ followers today. By understanding who Jesus is and what life in relationship with Him looks like, you too can begin to uncover God’s will for your life and walk with Jesus.

John #2 – Start with Jesus to Understand Yourself: John 1:19-34

How do we really come to understand ourselves? That question, perhaps more than any other, dominates our thinking as we use personality tests and other tools to discover the mystery that is me. There is a man named John the Baptizer whom Jesus called the greatest man who has ever lived. People tried to figure out who John was, and he said that the only way to really understand oneself is to first understand Jesus. In that day, like ours, many people were making the mistake of looking at themselves too much and looking at Jesus too little. If you want to understand who you are, the first thing you need to understand is who Jesus is.

Are you a harsh husband?

Colossians 3:18 commands husbands to be loving, not harsh, with their wives.

Think of your relationship like a bank account: every word of love and encouragement is a deposit. Every shout, harsh word or criticism is a withdrawal.

Some husbands run out of credit and don’t even realize it. So watch my video to find out 10 ways husbands can be harsh to their wives – and how to avoid those traps.

Parenting On Point Day 4: Follow the Leader

At some point, all kids play a game called “follow the leader.”

Do you remember playing this game?

In this game, someone is designated as the leader, and everyone else is a follower. The follower is supposed to follow the leader – go where they go, say what they say, and do what they do.

Parenting is basically a game of follow the leader.

First, the parents are to follow God their Father. Thankfully, much of what we need to learn about parenting comes by being God’s child. We learn how to be parents to our own children as we seek to treat our kids the way our perfect Dad has treated us, His kids.

Second, the parents are to help their children follow them as they follow God. This is the point of parenting : our ultimate goal must be that our children would grow to love and follow God. This simple refrain is repeated on a multitude of occasions throughout Scripture, where it says that a particular generation worshiped the God of their fathers, because God intends for children to worship the same God as their parent(s).

For example, Christians worship the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Those are three generations of family members. As a Christian parent, we should labor to see our children (and grandchildren) worship the same God we do. To pursue that goal, we must worship that God first.

Proverbs 20:7 says it this way, “The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!” The big idea is that a parent is a leader, and if they want their kids to walk toward the Lord then they need to lead the way.

Practically, this means such things as:
Your children will learn a lot about about praying by hearing you pray.
Your children will learn a lot about repentance by seeing you repent.
Your children will learn a lot about forgiveness by witnessing you forgive.
Your children will learn about trusting God by watching you trust God.
Your children will learn a lot about church by going to church with you.
Your children will learn a lot about right and wrong through your instruction.
Your children will learn a lot about the Bible by hearing you read it to them before they are old enough to read it for themselves.
How are you doing at following God? How are you doing at leading your child? How is your child doing at following you and God?

Colossians #11 – Enjoying Your Job

Critics of the Bible are prone to find controversial issues in complicated Scriptures and use them to discredit and dismiss God’s Word. This includes the occasional New Testament exhortations to “bondservants” which some translations refer to as “slaves.” Rather than editing God’s Word, apologizing for God’s Word, or dismissing God’s Word we should study God’s Word to find God’s wisdom. In these highly debated and controversial Scriptures, we learn how to be in authority like Jesus our Master, and under authority like Jesus our Servant – particularly on the job at work. Subsequently, we will learn together how to worship at work.
